“The After and Life” By Kombo Saumu

My chest is tight
From imagining my body crushed under earth
And the full knowledge that this body can rot for decades
Only to be cast into hell or heaven
I dread for my corpse.

Scorching hot high molten hell fire
Smelting my soul forever in the hereafter
For drinking in life…
Bartender,
One more shot.

The after:
A mirror of life
Just
Less condescending,
Less speedy,
Less skeptical
And, with no fear
Or hope
For an after
This.

After life:
Everything becomes
Less burdening,
Less surprising.
You have prior knowledge,
Hence the feeling
Of familiarity.
You know what to
Expect
For you spent
Life
Researching
After.

It could also be
An unending, dark, eternal
Void.
Yet it is easier
If we just thought of
The After
As
Just life
After Life.
